Lost

Does this mean I'm a Trekkie now?

Seeing a movie on New Year's Day became kind of a tradition in my family. I think we started when I was like 12 years old. Yesterday, some friends and I continued that tradition by seeing that new Keanu Reeves' movie, “The Day the Earth Stood Still.” I wasn't that impressed and the end was kind of unsatisfying.

But that's not the point of this post. Before the movie, we saw the trailer for the new ”Star Trek.”

I read that J.J. Abrams, creator of the best show ever ”Lost,” was rebooting the franchise, but wasn't all that interested in seeing it. Although I usually like his work, I have never really liked “Star Trek.” However, I've seen almost every movie because my dad was a fan.*

But when I saw that Zachary Quinto, who looks freakishly like Leonard Nimoy in my opinion, was cast as Spock, so I rethought seeing the movie if it was playing when my parents came to visit. I figured if nothing else, Quinto would make the movie interesting. I mean he is the saving grace of ”Heroes” at this point.

'Heroes' and Villains

‘Heroes’ in Athens
So … I was trolling on ew.com the other day and so this on the Ausiello Files and got a little excited.

Question: What is up with Kristen Bell and Heroes? It’s been ages since we’ve heard anything. – Steven

Ausiello: She's back on the set shooting her multi-episode arc as we speak! Woo-hoo! In other Heroes news, look for the action (or at least part of the action) to shift to a comic book shop in Athens, Georgia around Episode 11.

I don’t know if this means that they will actually film here in town. I sent the info to our features editor Julie Phillips, so hopefully she will be able to enlighten us in a few days.

"Man of Science, Man of Faith"

Yes that is a reference to the title of the premiere of the second season of “Lost” — I love that show and am going through a bit of withdrawal.

But the title seemed fitting for a subject that has been bugging me for a few days. It seems that every few months, for some inexplicable reason, this newspaper gets a ton of letters about evolution versus intelligent design. This is just one of those topics that will never be resolved, so why people keep fighting about it is beyond me. The fact of the matter is scientific people will believe in evolution and people of faith will believe in intelligent design. That’s pretty much as close to an answer as we are ever going to get.

Well unless someone builds a time machine. Seriously, it’s the 21st century … where are the flying cars, teleportation and time machines we were promised in the 1960s!
