A cry for attention

It does not make Bobby Saxon happy when people assume that the GOP primary was Rep. Paul Broun’s real test.

Saxon, who’s been using my pessimistic blog posts to motivate volunteers, sent out a press release calling out the Wall Street Journal for making assumptions about the 10th District race.

“It looks like some political pundits need help remembering that Georgia’s election season doesn’t end in July.

“In a July 17 article of the Wall Street Journal called ‘Dr. Broun Goes Back to Washington,’ columnist John Fund writes, ‘Dr. Broun will be going back to Washington next year, having won 71% in last night's primary.’ There is no mention of Bobby Saxon or his November challenge against Congressman Broun.

Weekend update

Jim Martin is leading in the polls. Who cares where he stands on the issues?

I’ve received three e-mails this week from the former state human resources commissioner’s U.S. Senate campaign. Two touted an internal poll showing in the lead in the Democratic primary, and one both touted the poll and asked me for money. I will contribute my two cents.

Martin leads DeKalb CEO Vernon Jones – who, like Martin, hasn’t seen fit to visit this liberal bastion, but who does have a billboard in Jackson County – 21 percent to 16, with the other 693 candidates in single digits. Apparently the campaign is planning on a runoff, because they polled for that, too: Martin leads 31-25.

Martin says in the accompanying press release: “I’ll fight to make the economy work for the middle class and, as a veteran, I know we need to do a better job of taking care of our troops.”
