Jim Martin is leading in the polls. Who cares where he stands on the issues?
I’ve received three e-mails this week from the former state human resources commissioner’s U.S. Senate campaign. Two touted an internal poll showing in the lead in the Democratic primary, and one both touted the poll and asked me for money. I will contribute my two cents.
Martin leads DeKalb CEO Vernon Jones – who, like Martin, hasn’t seen fit to visit this liberal bastion, but who does have a billboard in Jackson County – 21 percent to 16, with the other 693 candidates in single digits. Apparently the campaign is planning on a runoff, because they polled for that, too: Martin leads 31-25.
Martin says in the accompanying press release: “I’ll fight to make the economy work for the middle class and, as a veteran, I know we need to do a better job of taking care of our troops.”
