Sex & The City Trailer....
Submitted by andreagriffith on Fri, 04/09/2010 - 9:31am.OMG! OMG! OMG!
The trailer for the upcoming Sex & The City Movie has hit the web and it looks fantastic!
Maybe (dare I say it) better than the original??
It certainly looks like it brings the drama, beautiful men, gorgeous fashions and even some action.
Aidan's back! WHAT???? (So much for those denials, huh?)
Miley Cyrus and Liza Minelli also make appearances.
And, of course, there's plenty of Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha.
I can't wait! (video below)

Dan O'Bannon (1946-2009)
Submitted by Andrew Shearer on Fri, 12/18/2009 - 4:42am.Several sources on the web have reported that Hollywood screenwriter and film maker Dan O'Bannon has passed away at age 63 following a short period of illness.
He is most well-known for having written such science fiction classics as the original "Alien" (1979) and "Total Recall" (1990), but holds a special place in my heart as the writer and director of one of my top 5 films ever made, "Return of the Living Dead" (1985).
O'Bannon always gave great interviews and was one of the most unique personalities working in the genre. Often seen in a bow tie or suspenders when speaking on camera, his appearance was a great compliment to his outspoken nature.

Where did I see "Precious"?
Submitted by Andrew Shearer on Mon, 11/16/2009 - 11:14am.This Thursday's Cinema File column will be about the new film "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire". As with "Ponyo" (mentioned in my previous blog entry), this was a movie I'd been waiting months to see and couldn't stand the wait for Athens theaters to get it.
My wife and I drove the hour to Mall of Georgia for a 3:45pm show yesterday and paid $21 for a pair of tickets (I never buy drinks or food unless we're at Ciné), but "Precious" was well worth all of it.
While the box office receipts place it at #11 for the weekend in terms of earnings, if you figure in the relatively small amount of screens "Precious" is currently playing on and average it out, it was actually the #4 movie in the nation.
Look for my review in this Thursday's Marquee section, then hopefully look for it to open in town the following day.

I Saw What You Did (and I think it's rad)
Submitted by Andrew Shearer on Wed, 06/03/2009 - 10:06pm.Ten years after the release of "House On Haunted Hill", Dark Castle Entertainment have announced plans to remake 1965's "I Saw What You Did". Originally formed to exclusively produce remakes of films by the late, great William Castle, the firm (lead by Hollywood heavy Joel Silver) only managed to churn out one other modern update, 2001's "Thirteen Ghosts" before derailing into various other non-Castle projects in the years that followed.

Stuff that won't appear in my "Drag Me To Hell" review
Submitted by Andrew Shearer on Mon, 06/01/2009 - 10:42am.The recently released "Drag Me To Hell" (Sam Raimi's first horror movie since the 1987 sequel to "Evil Dead") proved to be the most fun I've had at the movies in quite a long time (you'll have to wait for Thursday's Cinema File column to get the full story, but let this blog serve as a warning shot: full-steam geek times are ahead) despite the fact that an entire scene of the film was ruined by a section of the audience.

Thanks Tom Cruise for ruining another movie for me ...
Submitted by Ann Marie Miani on Wed, 12/03/2008 - 3:48pm.Maybe I am the only one this bothers, but has anyone seen the trailer for the new Tom Cruise movie, ”Valkyrie”? Cruise plays a man named Claus von Stauffenberg who was one of the leaders in an assassination plot to kill Adolf Hitler.
Let me start off by saying, it looks like a really good movie. That being said, maybe it's just the journalist in me, but I like to see real life events portrayed as accurately as possible. So what really bothers me about this film is Cruise's complete lack of a German accent. And I am fairly certain someone named Claus von Stauffenberg didn't speak in unaccented American English.

Duh!
Submitted by Don Nelson on Tue, 11/11/2008 - 9:20am.Personally, the use of the word “duh” really bothers me, but somehow the intellectually-challenged expression for “you idiot” or “tell me something I don’t already know” seems to fit this three-year study about how teens who watch more television are more likely to initiate sex. Really? Who would’ve thought that? Do you think perhaps incivility and violent behavior in younger people have anything to do with the explicit scenes teens see on TV and in the movies?
Researchers need to get right on a new study to find out if movies, advertisements, electronic games and just general public behavior have any influence on teens and their behavior. You’re almost guaranteed to find out they do. So what’s the point of the study.
It’s not like the purveyors of entertainment are going to stop making the money they rake in.

I got a sneak peek of this last night, thanks to the lovely Kamala Lyons at Ciné. It’s scheduled to open there Aug. 29 (alongside Terry Gilliam’s excellent 1998 adaptation of ”Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”).
