'Sick and Shameful'

Break the law or face prosecution.

That's the message from Wisconsin District Attorney, Scott Southworth, to (are you ready for this?) public school TEACHERS.

The state has a new law called the Healthy Youth Act, which orders educators to teach 'age appropriate' sex ed.

Southworth is horrified by the law and in a letter, along with calling it 'sick and shameful', insists it 'promotes the sexualization- and sexual assault- of our children'.

He's telling teachers that if they teach it, they'll be sorry.

According to the Wisconsin State Journal, Juneau County has teen pregnancy rates that are above state average. (Hmmmmm, looks like kids are getting 'educated' somewhere.)

What do you think?

Is Southworth in denial or is he justified in his beliefs? (video below)

Your kid's teacher is a 'C' student

Or at least that's what can be imputed from University System of Georgia Chancellor Erroll Davis' State of the System address to the system's Board of Regents. In relevant part, Davis told the regents, according to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution story paraphrasing his remarks, "that 25 percent of Georgia's first-time freshmen are unprepared for college work."

Here's what that means: Out of every 100 Georgia students that teachers, principals and other administrators certify to have successfully completed a K-12 education -- an education that, at a minimum, should have given those students the ability to move into a college classroom -- 25 students can't do college-level work.

The Glenn and Bear It Tax

Georgia House of Representatives Dictator -- Speaker -- Glenn Richardson managed to get his latest version of the tax swap passed on Wednesday. His minions in a House subcommittee approved his plan to substitute eliminate school and car property taxes by substituting extra taxes on sales and service. The bill will move to the House Ways and Means Committee and if approved there will head to the full House for a vote.

Using sales taxes and taxes on services is short-sighted when it comes to funding our public education -- if not the most important, certainly among the most important responsibilities of our government.
