Nostalgia is a dangerous drug.

These mean-spirited junkies cannot offer an opinion without measuring the present against some spit-and-polished version of the past. They long for good old days that never were. I scared up a nest of them when I dared challenge the notion of a “Greatest Generation” a few months back. But don’t pin this only on the senior set. You’ll find nostalgia heads everywhere – politics, religion and, perhaps in its most freakish form, sports.
