I love Beth's story today. There are boy bands, and then there are boy bands and I have to say, this kind is way more endearing (even if I'm a fan of neither genre's, um, music).
Here's a little tidbit that got left out of the online version of her story, describing said bands:
Three bands will play:
Harry and the Potters: Headliners and probably the best known of the lineup. Brothers Paul and Joe DeGeorge are largely credited with starting the Wizard Rock movement (that would be bands with lyrics based on J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series) back in 2002.
They’re a high concept band: Basically, the brothers play Harry Potter from Year 7 (Paul) and Harry Potter from Year 4 (Joe), who’ve escaped the bounds of time in order to appear together on the stage at the same time. Hits include “Save Ginny Weasley” and “This Book is So Awesome.”
Math the Band: Electro-dance, rock band with songs about staying in shape, werewolves and the water cycle. With his intense vocals, Math the Band singer Kevin Steinhauser captures the hysteria one would feel when, say, trying to escape the wrath of a lioness protecting her cubs.
Uncle Monsterface: Three guys play in this rock band alongside a bunch of sock puppets and a human-size green monster with yellow teeth. Uncle Monsterface sounds a little like Modest Mouse if Modest Mouse played songs about a monkey who befriends a girl who has no legs.
The band stresses that the sock puppets take an active role in the stage performance: “They play instruments, make telephone calls and teach the world to love again.”
