Interested in becoming the University of Georgia’s next athletic director?

The school has posted its job opening on the NCAA’s official website. There’s even an e-mail account up and running: adsearch@uga.edu .

That’s where applicants to replace Damon Evans, who resigned in the fallout of his June 30 DUI arrest, can send information for consideration or a nomination can be submitted, according to the listing posted on July 16.

Here’s the job description:

“The Athletic Director is responsible for administration and direction of the total intercollegiate athletic program which has a current annual budget of $84 million, fielding 21 intercollegiate teams (9 men’s and 12 women’s) in NCAA Division I, comprising over 600 student athletes and utilizing multi-million dollar physical facilities. This position requires someone who has considerable expertise in intercollegiate athletics management, a keen business sense and an appreciation for the important role athletics plays in a great public university. In addition, the Athletic Director will effectively represent the NCAA’s unique attributes of fair play, character, learning balance, spirit and community.”

The job listing says for a candidate to be “competitive,” he or she “should have a bachelor’s degree." A master’s degree is “desirable.”

UGA president Michael Adams, of course, might not be making his choice with what pops in the e-mail or arrives through the job listing.

"I have a pretty good network of contacts around the country," Adams said earlier this month.

Among the 18 items listed under Duties and Responsibilities:
--Develops plans, policies, procedures and programs which are in compliance with the University, the SEC Conference, the NCAA rules and regulations, applicable State and Federal Laws, and which promote the mission of the Department, the University’s high standard of academic excellence and the general welfare of student-athletes.

--Promotes athletic excellence on local, conference and national levels for the men’s and women’s intercollegiate sports programs, to include coordinating the recruitment, selection and evaluation of all coaches.

--Evaluates the condition of the athletic facilities to include inspection for safety, as well as comparison with State of Georgia, SEC Conference and national standards.

The contact person on the ad is Tom Gausvik, the University’s Associate Vice President For Human Resources.

The listing said that the application review will begin immediately. Candidates will be considered for the position until it is filled.

Adams has said he expects plenty of qualified candidates for the gig.

"This is one of the five or six best athletic director jobs in America, in my opinion," he said.
