Georgia coach Mark Richt and new defensive coordinator Todd Grantham will be in the house (the Butts-Mehre building that is) to field questions on the start of spring practice.
Check back here for updates starting after 5 p.m.

Richt:
"DeAngelo Tyson will play nose and Geathers is slated to play inside."

Special teams responsibilities:
Tony Ball--kickoff return
John Lilly-punt team
Warren Belin—kickoff coverage team (former Bulldogs assistant Jon Fabris coached previously).
Bryan McClendon—punt return and block (Fabris coached previously).
Lilly--will coordinate all the special teams meeting and practice times.

On the new defensive coaches: "There’s a genuine excitement. I’ve got a great anticipation for this spring and the season to come. ...There's very good chemistry already."

On whether a No. 1 quarterback will be named by the end of the spring: "We talked about that today. I said `If we think we have an outright No. 1, we’re going to say it. If we don't think so, we won't.' I don’t feel a need to do it, I don't think it's a must, but if someone separates themselves and deserves to be considered the starter by the end of that time, we’ll do it, but I think it will be hard to do to make that decision after spring, I really do."

"We did move Nick Williams back to safety. He’s been a hybrid since he’s been here. Right now we feel like would be better suited to play safety but he may play some linebacker when we move to a nickel package."

"Richard Samuel will start out at outside linebacker."

On the secondary:
"It’s going to be a little different philosophy. We were more of a boundary corner and a field corner, not to say that we won't continue to do that, but the boundary corners in our old scheme were counted on to do a lot of run support. I don’t know if we’ll be doing quite as much of that. … We still may go left-right in that regard. I think we’re going to be experimenting a little bit at the corner position. You’d like to have safeties that can play both the strong and the free. That’s ideal really in any defense. ...We’re just going to be mixing and matching with these guys a little bit to see who can do what."

Richt confirmed that Justin Houston and Montez Robinson will play outside linebacker.

Asked if anything with the strength and conditioning program had been tweaked with the addition of the new defensive staff, Richt said “No. That hadn’t come up. Our strength and conditioning staff does a great job. We’ll be open to any ideas for anything, but that just has not come up to this point.”

Grantham:
"I’m excited to get spring practice started. I’m really pleased with the players that we have here and encouraged with their effort."

His family is still living in Texas.
"It’s basically recruiting in the morning and in the afternoon it’s strictly football."

"It's important that we can identify the players that can help us compete for an SEC Championship."

On Tyson and Geathers at nose tackle:
"All of those guys could be in there at some point. The biggest thing is you have to have flexibility in your system."
Brandon Wood, Demarcus Dobbs and Abry Jones will be defensive ends.
Justin Houston, Cornelius Washington, Montez Robinson and Richard Samuel will be outside linebackers.

"It’s really critical that you develop your fundamentals in spring practice. It’s still a fundamental game."
