Snow delays Grantham honor back home

The heavy snow expected to hit the mid-Atlantic region hard today is closing schools, delaying and canceling flights and keeping some people away from work.

It also means that Pulaski County High School in Dublin, Va., won’t retire Todd Grantham’s number like it was scheduled to tonight.

The new Georgia defensive coordinator was slated to have his old football jersey number—53—retired with family in attendance before the school’s varsity basketball game tonight.

“That’s been in the works for about a year,” Grantham said Wednesday after Georgia announced its new signees and before the jersey ceremony was postponed. “I’m going back.”

The event has been postponed to a later date, according to the Pulaski County Patriot. Carolina Panthers tight end Jeff King also is getting his number retired.

Other Friday tidbits:
--This is Matthew Stafford as you've never seen him before. Not sure if that’s a good thing. Yes, the former Bulldogs quarterback is now pitching Gatorade.

--Did the Colorado game just get a little tougher? The Buffaloes are holding a 20-year reunion for their national championship team on Oct. 2. Nike is working on a commemorative jersey for the team to wear for the game.

--According to an e-mail I received, a Mr. Tim Tebow is supposed to be doing the Gatorade thing today like Stafford, but yesterday he was hanging out with President Obama and Sen. Johnny Isakson at a prayer breakfast in Washington. Isakson introduced Tebow this way: "It is rather incredible that a Georgia Bulldog invited a Florida Gator, so you can see the hand of God here."

--Connecticut has hired a replacement for Scott Lakatos, who is now your Georgia defensive backs coach.

--In case you didn’t read the story from ABH reporter Lee Shearer, Michael Adams is answering questions about Damon Evans’ pay raise.
