It’s official: Spencer Frye might run for mayor next year. This note arrived in the inbox just now:
“For several months now, I have been exploring how I can be most effective in this community, whether by continuing my work as Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity, becoming more involved with an environmental company that I co-founded, or by becoming a candidate for Mayor of Athens. I feel that the next Mayor of Athens needs to be concerned with moving Athens forward on a number of issues including: quality jobs, the environment (land use, transportation options, clean air and clean water), poverty, crime and strengthening our neighborhoods. In an effort to keep all of my options open at this time and to comply with election law, I have decided to form a campaign committee to fully explore my candidacy for Mayor As I continue to talk to people about the issues that Athens faces, I encourage people from all ends of the political spectrum to contact me so we can further discuss what this community needs. Feel free to call me at 706-254-1679 or email me at spencerfrye@gmail.com.”
Since Commissioner Kelly Girtz has decided to seek re-election rather than shoot for the big time, there remains room for another serious candidate who can run to the left of Charlie Maddox and Tax Commissioner Nancy Denson. Will Frye be that guy?
